Juan's Wizardwear - Costume Shop

A dimly lit costume rental shop run by Juan, a tall thin man in black cape who makes endless juan puns. Rent costumes with custom titles, weapons, and armor for game days.

What Is Juan's Wizardwear?

Juan's Wizardwear (also called "Haunter's Lodge" or simply "Costume Shop") is a rental shop where you can temporarily change your character's title, weapon, and armor by renting costumes. Run by Juan, "a tall, thin man dressed in a black suit and cape," the shop is "dimly lit" and "filled from wall to wall with hundreds of costumes." The shop features five configurable costumes plus one special costume for donators.

What makes this shop unique is Juan himself, who speaks almost entirely in puns on his own name ("juan" instead of "one," "juander" instead of "wander," "juandering" instead of "wandering"). The costumes you rent replace your custom title and optionally your weapon and armor for a set number of game days, after which they automatically return to the shop.

How It Works

Rental System:

  • Cost: Level × 10 gold (default setting, configurable)
  • Rental Period: 2 game days (default, configurable)
  • One at a Time: Can only rent one costume at a time
  • Title Change: Costume name replaces your custom title (not your base name)
  • Equipment Change: Weapon and armor change to costume-specific items (optional per costume)
  • Auto-Return: On the final rental day, costume automatically returns to shop
  • Early Return: If you manually change title/equipment, costume returns immediately

Default Costumes:

  • Ghost: Title: "Ghost", Weapon: Ball and Chain, Armor: Sheet
  • Pirate: Title: "Pirate", Weapon: Pirate's Cutlass, Armor: Eyepatch
  • Skeleton: Title: "Skeleton", Weapon: Skeletal Sword, Armor: Skeletal Helmet
  • Vampire: Title: "Vampire", Weapon: Fangs, Armor: Cape
  • Zombie: Title: "Zombie", Weapon: Filthy Hands, Armor: Ragged Clothes
  • Donator Special: Configurable by admin (only visible to players with donation > 0)

If all costumes are disabled, a default "Clown" costume appears with Cream Pie weapon and Clown Nose armor.

Juan's Personality

The Juan Pun Show:

Juan speaks almost entirely in puns on his own name. Examples from the shop:

  • "You juander around the shop looking at the different costumes for a while."
  • "You are determined to come back juan day."
  • "As you juander through the aisles you suddenly meet a tall, thin man."
  • "I couldn't just pick juan. but that's all you can choose for now!"
  • "I restock new juans every month!"
  • "A fellow donator! I might have a special juan for you."
  • "You're having a hard time deciding which juan you like the most."
  • "You admire the different costumes you ijuander if you could change your current suit."

The character Juan appears to be a completely original creation for HogwartsLive, designed entirely around making "juan/one" puns.

Christmas Mode

Holiday Decorations:

If "christmastxt" setting is enabled, the shop transforms:

  • Shop Description: "Brightly lit shop" with "huge wreaths, brightly colored glass orbs and other ornaments"
  • Juan's Appearance: "A huge man, dressed as Santa Claus" instead of thin man in black cape
  • Juan's Greeting: "Happy Holidays, and welcome to my little shop! I am Juan."
  • Movement: "He laughs loudly as he leaves you. You start to browse the different costumes, still juandering how such a large man can move so fast."
  • Village Description: "Laughing people are emerging from [shop] wearing fancy costumes!" (instead of "Visitors")

Costume Restrictions

When You Can't Rent:

  • Already Renting: "Juan looks busy at the counter, so you decide to come back another time." (Can't change costume mid-rental)
  • Too Expensive: "All of the costumes are too expensive for you, so you leave the shop a bit disappointed but you are determined to come back juan day."
  • Shop Closed: If admin closes shop (setting: "open" = false), shop doesn't appear in village at all

Important: Admin should close shop instead of disabling module to prevent players from getting stuck with costumes they can't return.

Costume Duration & Voldemort Encounters

What Happens Over Time:

  • Day 1: Rent costume, title/weapon/armor change immediately, countdown begins
  • Days 2+: Each new day decrements rental counter by 1
  • Final Day: Automatic message: "You send the costume back to the shop." Everything reverts
  • Early Manual Change: If you change title/equipment yourself, costume returns with message
  • Dragon Kill (Default): Costume returns: "You didn't want to risk ruining the costume while fighting Voldemort, so you sent it back to the shop."
  • Dragon Kill (keepdk Setting): If enabled, rental extends by 1 day when you defeat dragon

Admin Customization

Shop Configuration:

  • Shop Name: Changeable from default "Juan's Wizardwear"
  • Location: Can be placed in any city/village
  • Rental Time: Configure how many game days costume lasts
  • Cost Multiplier: Change from default 10 gold per level
  • Dragon Kill Behavior: Toggle whether costumes persist through VE
  • Christmas Mode: Toggle holiday decorations and Santa Juan
  • Costume Slots: Configure up to 5 regular costumes plus 1 donator costume
  • Empty Slots: Leave costume fields empty to have fewer than 5 choices
  • Equipment Optional: Weapon/armor fields can be left empty if not wanted
  • Character Limit: Costume titles limited to 25 characters (auto-truncated)

User Preferences Management

Admin Tools:

Admins can manage player costumes via User Editor:

  • Remove Costume: Set "rentleft" to 0 to instantly return costume
  • View Status: Check oldtitle, oldweapon, oldarmor to see original equipment
  • Extend Rental: Increase rentleft value to extend costume duration
  • Force Costume: Manually set newtitle, weapon, armor, and rentleft
  • Error Handling: System prevents removing costume if player isn't actually wearing "juan"

Strategy & Tips

Costume Rental Strategy

  • Cosmetic Only: Costumes are purely cosmetic - they don't affect stats (weapon/armor names change but not values)
  • Low Cost: At level 15, costs only 150 gold for 2 days - very affordable
  • RP Value: Great for roleplaying events, holidays, or just showing personality
  • Donator Perks: If you've donated, check for special costume option
  • Pre-Dragon Timing: Don't rent right before fighting dragon (default: costume returns)
  • Equipment Lock: Remember you can't buy new weapons/armor while costumed
  • Title Preservation: System saves your original custom title and restores it automatically
  • Early Return: If you need to change equipment urgently, you can - costume just returns early
  • News Potential: No automatic news posts, but you might get attention with funny costume
  • Bank Your Gold: Can't use costume as gold storage - it's cheap anyway

Canon Reference

There is no "Juan" character or costume shop in Harry Potter canon. This is entirely original content created for HogwartsLive. The Halloween/costume element could loosely connect to the Hallowe'en Feast at Hogwarts (which is a major plot point in multiple books), but the shop itself is pure invention.

The closest canonical equivalent might be Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, which sells various wizarding clothing including dress robes and school uniforms. However, that shop doesn't rent costumes or feature a pun-making proprietor named Juan.

The Christmas mode Santa Juan transformation is similarly non-canonical but fits the general festive atmosphere of Hogwarts during the holidays (as depicted in every Harry Potter book and movie).

Shop Info: Juan's Wizardwear (costumeshop.php) is a costume rental shop offering temporary title, weapon, and armor changes. Default rental: level × 10 gold for 2 game days. Features 5 configurable costumes (Ghost, Pirate, Skeleton, Vampire, Zombie) plus 1 donator-only special costume. Shop owner Juan speaks entirely in puns on his own name ("juan" replacing "one", "juander" replacing "wander"). Optional Christmas mode transforms Juan into Santa Claus with festive shop decorations. Costumes automatically return on final rental day or early if player manually changes equipment. Dragon kill behavior configurable: default returns costume, optional setting extends rental by 1 day. All costumes limited to 25 characters. If all costumes disabled, shop defaults to Clown costume (Cream Pie weapon, Clown Nose armor). Admin can force-apply or remove costumes via user preferences. Shop should be closed (not disabled) to prevent players getting stuck with costumes.
