Armor & Protection
A guide to the 750+ different ways to avoid being stabbed, hexed, or otherwise inconvenienced in combat.
Fashion vs. Function: In the wizarding world, armor serves two purposes: protecting you from harm, and making you look fabulous while doing it. Fortunately, most armor in Hogwarts Live accomplishes both.
What Is Armor?
Armor is protective equipment that increases your defense rating, making it harder for enemies to hit you. Think of it as a magical force field, except it's made of fabric, leather, or enchanted metal instead of pure plot convenience.
In Hogwarts Live, armor is purchased from Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, the premier clothing shop for witches and wizards who prefer not to die. There are currently 750+ different armor pieces available, ranging from basic robes to legendary artifacts that would make even Dumbledore jealous.
How Armor Works
Each piece of armor has two important attributes:
- Defense Rating (1-15): How much protection it provides. Higher is better, obviously.
- VE Requirement: How many Voldemort Encounters you need before you can wear it. Powerful armor requires experience, because apparently magical robes have standards.
- Cost: How much gold you'll need to part with. Good armor isn't cheap, and cheap armor isn't good.
Armor Progression
As you gain Voldemort Encounters and level up, you'll unlock access to better armor. The progression typically looks like this:
🎓 Beginner Armor (VE 0-2)
Basic robes and simple protective gear. Defense ratings of 1-3. Better than nothing, but not by much. At least you'll look like a proper wizard.
⚔️ Intermediate Armor (VE 3-6)
Enchanted robes and reinforced garments. Defense ratings of 4-8. Now we're talking. These will actually keep you alive in most fights.
🌟 Advanced Armor (VE 7-10)
Powerful magical protection. Defense ratings of 9-12. You're basically a walking fortress at this point. Very impressive.
👑 Legendary Armor (VE 11+)
The best of the best. Defense ratings of 13-15. This is the armor that makes other wizards weep with envy. Wear it with pride.
Buying Armor
To purchase armor, visit Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions in Diagon Alley. The shop will show you all available armor pieces that match your current VE level. You can't buy armor that requires more VEs than you have, because apparently magical robes have a strict "no noobs" policy.
When choosing armor, consider:
- Defense vs. Cost: Higher defense is better, but it costs more gold. Balance your budget with your survival instincts.
- VE Requirements: Don't buy armor you'll outgrow quickly. Save your gold for the good stuff.
- Current Threats: If you're dying a lot, invest in better armor. If you're winning easily, maybe save your gold for weapons instead.
Example Armor
Here are some example armor pieces available at different VE levels. There are 750+ total armor pieces in the game, with defense ratings from 1 to 15. Visit Madam Malkin's in Diagon Alley to see what's available for your current VE level.
| Armor Name | Defense | VE Required | Cost (Gold) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tattered Robes | 1 | 0 | 48 |
| Enchanted Student Robes | 5 | 3 | 990 |
| Auror Battle Robes | 10 | 7 | 5,040 |
| Legendary Dragonhide Armor | 15 | 12 | 10,350 |
Note: These are just examples. The game contains 750+ unique armor pieces with varying defense ratings and costs. Armor availability is based on your VE count.
Important: Armor Doesn't Stack
You can only wear one piece of armor at a time. You can't layer 15 different robes on top of each other and become invincible. Trust us, people have tried. It doesn't work, and you look ridiculous.
Armor Strategy
The key to armor selection is finding the sweet spot between "good enough to keep you alive" and "not so expensive that you're broke forever." Generally, you want to upgrade your armor every 2-3 VEs to keep pace with increasingly dangerous enemies.
Don't neglect armor in favor of weapons. A powerful weapon won't help you if you're dead. Balance your offense and defense, and you'll live longer. It's basic math, really.
