Donations & Site Points

How to support the server and get shiny perks

What are Donations?

HogwartsLive is a free-to-play game that has been running since 2004. It's maintained by volunteers who pay for server costs, development time, and the occasional therapy session required to deal with player petitions. Donations help keep the lights on and the servers running.

When you donate, you receive Site Points (also called "donation points" or "gems") that can be spent on various in-game perks and features. Think of it as supporting the game while also getting some nice bonuses for your character.

What are Site Points?

Site Points are the premium currency of HogwartsLive. They're earned through donations and can be spent on:

  • Mounts: Magical creatures that provide permanent stat bonuses
  • Premium Items: Special equipment, potions, and consumables
  • Prefect's Lounge Access: Exclusive donator-only area with special features
  • Name Changes: Change your character name (if enabled)
  • Module Features: Some modules offer premium features for site points
  • Cosmetic Items: Titles, badges, and other vanity items

How to Donate

To donate, visit the Prefect's Lounge from the village (under "Donators" navigation). There you'll find:

  • Information about donation tiers and rewards
  • Payment options (PayPal, credit card, etc.)
  • Your current site point balance
  • History of your donations

Note: Donation amounts and rewards vary by server. Check your server's Prefect's Lounge for specific details.

Prefect's Lounge

The Prefect's Lounge is the exclusive donator area. Once you've donated, you gain access to:

Special Chat

A private commentary area for donators to chat without the rabble. It's like a VIP lounge, but with more wizards and fewer velvet ropes.

Exclusive Features

Access to donator-only modules, events, and activities. The exact features vary by server, but they're generally worth the price of admission.

Site Point Shop

Purchase premium items, mounts, and other goodies with your site points. It's like Diagon Alley, but everything costs gems instead of gold.

Donator Badge

A special badge or title that shows you support the game. It's like a Prefect badge, but shinier and with fewer responsibilities.

Site Point Economy

Site points are valuable and should be spent wisely:

Spending Strategy:

  • Mounts First: Permanent stat bonuses are the best long-term investment
  • Avoid Consumables: One-time-use items are expensive and temporary
  • Save for Big Purchases: Premium mounts and items are worth saving for
  • Check Refund Policies: Some items (like mounts) can be sold back for full refund
  • Don't Hoard Forever: Site points are meant to be spent - use them to enhance your gameplay

Earning Site Points Without Donating

While donations are the primary way to earn site points, some servers offer alternative methods:

  • Special Events: Seasonal events may reward site points
  • Contests: Competitions and tournaments may offer site point prizes
  • Referrals: Referring new players may earn you site points
  • Admin Rewards: Exceptional roleplay or community contributions may be rewarded

Important: These alternative methods are rare and server-specific. Don't expect to earn significant site points without donating. The game is free-to-play, but donations keep it running.

Donation Ethics

A few important points about donations:

  • Not Pay-to-Win: Donations provide convenience and cosmetics, not overwhelming power
  • Support the Game: Your donations directly support server costs and development
  • Voluntary: You can enjoy the full game without ever donating
  • No Refunds: Donations are final - spend site points carefully
  • Don't Beg: Asking other players for site points is frowned upon

Alumni Status

Players who have donated a significant amount over time may achieve Alumni Status, which grants:

  • Permanent access to Prefect's Lounge (even if site points run out)
  • Special alumni badge or title
  • Recognition as a long-term supporter of the game
  • Possible additional perks (varies by server)

Alumni status requirements vary by server, but typically require donating over an extended period (months or years) rather than a single large donation.

Thank You: If you've donated to HogwartsLive, thank you for keeping the game alive. Your support makes it possible for thousands of players to enjoy this ridiculous Harry Potter RPG parody. You're the real heroes.
