The Slug Club
Professor Slughorn's exclusive social club for the talented, connected, and shameless name-droppers
What Is the Slug Club?
The Slug Club is an exclusive social gathering hosted by Professor Horace Slughorn for students he considers talented, well-connected, or otherwise worth "collecting." In HogwartsLive, attending Slug Club parties provides various rewards including the legendary Felix Felicis potion, Horcrux lore, and interactions with famous wizarding world celebrities. It's networking meets magical education, with a side of shameless social climbing.
In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Slughorn used these parties to maintain connections with students who went on to become famous, powerful, or useful. He name-dropped constantly, collected famous people like trading cards, and generally embodied the concept of "it's not what you know, it's who you know." In HogwartsLive, you get to experience this social hierarchy yourself, assuming you're charming enough to pass his assessment.
Joining the Slug Club
Slughorn's Assessment:
Before you can attend parties, you must pass Slughorn's assessment to prove you're worth his time:
- Charm Requirement: Minimum 1,000 charm (default) - you need to be likeable
- Potions Quiz: Answer questions about potion-making and magical theory
- Talent Demonstration: Prove you have special abilities or connections
- Difficulty: Configurable, default is quite challenging (5/5 difficulty)
Note: Server admins can disable the assessment requirement, allowing anyone to attend. But where's the exclusivity in that?
Attending Slug Club Parties
What Happens at Parties:
- Once Per Day: You can attend one Slug Club party per game day
- Famous Guests: Meet celebrities from the wizarding world (up to 3 per party by default)
- Felix Felicis: Receive the luck potion every 7th visit (default frequency)
- Horcrux Knowledge: Learn dark secrets from Slughorn about Horcruxes
- Special Bonuses: Different guests provide different rewards
Felix Felicis - Liquid Luck
The Legendary Luck Potion:
Every 7th visit to the Slug Club (default setting), Slughorn rewards you with a vial of Felix Felicis:
- Extra Forest Fights: Gain +7 forest fights per day (default) while the potion is active
- Increased Gem Drops: 30% chance to find gems after battle victories
- Duration: Effects last for multiple days (server configurable)
- Daily Bonus: Forest fight bonus applies each newday while active
In the books, Felix Felicis made everything go your way for exactly 12 hours. In HogwartsLive, it's more practical - giving you tangible combat benefits for an extended period. Less "win at love" and more "win at not dying in the forest."
Horcrux Knowledge
Dark Secrets:
During your visits, you can learn about Horcruxes from Slughorn (just like Harry did in the books):
- Alignment Cost: Learning about Horcruxes costs 100 alignment points (default)
- Dark Knowledge: Marks you as someone dabbling in dark magic
- One-Time Event: You can only learn this information once
- Prerequisite for Evil: May be required for certain dark magic paths
Slughorn is deeply ashamed of this conversation in the books, and rightfully so. In HogwartsLive, he'll still share the information, but it comes with the understanding that you're learning about one of the darkest forms of magic in existence.

The Lore
Professor Horace Slughorn was introduced in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince as the Potions master who returned to Hogwarts at Dumbledore's request. He was famous for his "Slug Club" - informal gatherings where he collected talented students and maintained connections with those who became famous or powerful.
Slughorn wasn't evil, just vain and opportunistic. He enjoyed name-dropping ("I taught Gwenog Jones, you know"), collecting famous associates, and positioning himself to benefit from his students' successes. His parties featured crystallized pineapple, famous guests, and barely concealed social climbing.
The Slug Club in the books included Harry Potter (famous), Hermione Granger (brilliant), Ginny Weasley (talented at hexes), Cormac McLaggen (well-connected family), and others deemed worthy. Slughorn's favoritism was blatant, his motivations transparent, but he was generally harmless and occasionally helpful - particularly when he finally shared his memory about Horcruxes with Harry.
Module Info: It faithfully recreates the social climbing atmosphere of Slughorn's parties while providing tangible game benefits. The Felix Felicis system, famous guest appearances, and Horcrux knowledge all tie back to events from Half-Blood Prince, making it both mechanically useful and thematically appropriate.
