New Day System
How time works when you have 12 days per real-world day
What is a New Day?
In HogwartsLive, time moves differently than in the real world. Instead of one day per 24 hours, you get 12 game days per real-world day. This means a "new day" occurs every 2 hours, resetting your resources and allowing you to continue playing. It's like Groundhog Day, except you're a wizard and you actually make progress.
The new day system is the heartbeat of HogwartsLive. It determines when you can play, how much you can do, and when your resources refresh. Understanding it is essential to playing effectively.
When Do New Days Occur?
New days happen every 2 hours, starting at midnight server time. The exact schedule is:
New Day Schedule (12 per day):
You can check the exact time until the next new day on the game's home page. It's displayed prominently so you can plan your play sessions accordingly.
What Happens at New Day?
When a new day occurs, several things reset or change:
Resources Restored
- Forest fights reset to default (usually 10)
- Hitpoints fully restored
- Companions healed if knocked out
- Temporary buffs may expire
- Daily limits reset (PvP fights, etc.)
Special Events
- Resurrection if you died
- Module-specific daily events
- Alignment adjustments (mounts)
- Daily quests/tasks reset
- Commentary/chat may clear
The New Day Process
When you log in after a new day has occurred, you'll see a "New Day" screen that shows:
- Resurrection: If you were dead, you're brought back to life
- Healing: Your HP is restored to maximum
- Forest Fights: Your forest fight count resets
- News: Important announcements or events
- Module Hooks: Various modules run their daily processes
This process happens automatically - you don't need to do anything except log in and click through the new day screen.
Multiple New Days
If you haven't logged in for a while, you might have multiple new days waiting. The game will process them all at once, but you only get the benefits of ONE new day. This means:
Important: Unused forest fights do NOT accumulate! If you miss 5 new days, you don't get 50 forest fights. You get 10 (the default). The game encourages regular play, not marathon sessions after long absences.
New Day Strategy
Maximizing New Days:
- Play Multiple Sessions: With 12 new days per real day, you can play several short sessions instead of one long one
- Use All Forest Fights: They don't carry over, so use them all before the next new day
- Time Your Sessions: Check the new day schedule and plan around it
- Don't Hoard Resources: Forest fights, PvP attacks, and other daily resources reset, so use them
- Log In Regularly: Even if just for 10 minutes, regular play is more efficient than sporadic marathons
What Doesn't Reset?
Not everything resets at new day. The following persist:
- Gold in bank: Your savings are permanent
- Experience: Progress toward leveling is permanent
- Equipment: Weapons, armor, and items don't disappear
- Level: You don't lose levels at new day
- VE count: Voldemort Encounters are permanent progression
- Companions: Your phoenix/niffler stays with you (unless knocked out, then healed)
- Alignment: Your good/evil status persists
The Philosophy of New Days
The 12-new-days-per-day system exists to make HogwartsLive playable for people with different schedules. Instead of requiring you to log in once per 24 hours, you can log in at various times throughout the day and always have something to do. It also prevents burnout by limiting how much you can accomplish in one sitting.
Some players love this system, some find it restrictive. Either way, it's fundamental to how the game works, so you might as well embrace it. Think of it as the game's way of encouraging you to have a life outside of HogwartsLive. Revolutionary concept, we know.
Pro Tip: Set a reminder for new day times that work with your schedule. If you can log in at 8 AM, 12 PM, 6 PM, and 10 PM, you'll get 4 full play sessions per day without disrupting your life too much.
