What are Bertie Bott's Beans?
Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans are magical candies that come in literally every flavor imaginable - from chocolate and peppermint to spinach, liver, tripe, and the legendary bogey flavor. In HogwartsLive, they're also currency for the Candy Raffle system, where you can win prizes ranging from useful items to complete garbage.
You can find beans randomly while traveling, exploring the forest, or wandering the village. You can also purchase them with Donator Points at the Prefect's Lounge. Once you have beans, you can enter them into active raffles for a chance to win prizes.
Finding Beans
Beans appear as random events in various locations:
- Forest (60% chance): While hunting creatures, you might stumble upon a bag of beans
- Village (80% chance): Walking around the village, you notice beans on the ground
- Travel (40% chance): While traveling between locations, you find beans along the road
When you find beans, you're presented with a choice: eat one (risky) or pocket them all (safe). Eating a bean can result in:
Good Flavors
Chocolate, peppermint, strawberry, etc. Pleasant experience, no negative effects. You pocket the rest of the beans.
Terrible Flavors
Bogey, earwax, vomit, dirt, etc. Disgusting experience. You might lose HP, get debuffed, or throw away all the beans in disgust.
Pro Tip: Unless you're feeling lucky (or masochistic), just pocket the beans without eating one. The risk rarely outweighs the reward, and you need beans for raffles anyway.
Buying Beans
If you're a donator with access to the Prefect's Lounge, you can purchase beans with Donator Points:
- Package 1: 50 beans for 100 Donator Points
- Package 2: 300 beans for 500 Donator Points
- Package 3: 1,000 beans for 1,000 Donator Points
- Package 4: 4,000 beans for 2,000 Donator Points
This is useful if you want to enter expensive raffles but don't want to wait for random bean drops.
Player Protection
The candy has acquired a thin layer of consumer protection, the kind the Ministry usually reserves for cauldron-thickness regulations:
- Published odds: the bean event is 12 good / 9 bad of 21 flavors (about 57.1% pleasant), each flavor equally likely, and those numbers are printed on the screen before you decide to chew.
- Bad-bean pity: eat 5 unpleasant beans in a row (default; admin-configurable, 0 disables it) and your next bean is guaranteed pleasant (Chocolate). It is the bean after the streak that is saved, not the fifth one. The tally lives on the server and ignores any help you try to give it.
- Daily donator-point cap: at most 2,000 donator points may be spent on boxes of beans per day (default; 0 means uncapped), enforced atomically at purchase so a frantic double-click can't slip a second box past the limit. The remaining allowance is shown when you go to buy.
The forest bean event itself is free — beans found while traveling, in the forest, or in the village cost no donator points and are never capped. Only buying a box with donator points counts against the daily ceiling. A bean's reward (a buff, a debuff, or a stash count) lands on your own account and cannot be handed to another player. Candy Raffles
The Candy Raffle system allows administrators to create raffles where players can spend beans for a chance to win prizes. Raffles are accessed from the village navigation (look for "Candy Raffle" - it shows "ACTIVE" when raffles are running).
How Raffles Work
- Admin creates a raffle with a prize, bean cost, and duration
- Players spend beans to enter the raffle (each entry costs a set number of beans)
- When the raffle ends, a random winner is selected from all entries
- Winner receives the prize, everyone else gets nothing (that's how raffles work)
Raffle Strategy
Maximizing Your Chances:
- Check the Prize: Don't waste beans on raffles for items you don't want
- Multiple Entries: You can enter the same raffle multiple times to increase your odds
- Competition: Check how many other players have entered before spending all your beans
- Bean Management: Save beans for high-value raffles instead of entering every raffle
- Timing: Enter raffles early to see if competition is fierce or light
Common Raffle Prizes
Raffle prizes vary by server and admin creativity, but common prizes include:
- Donator Points or Gems: Two separate currencies — Donator Points for the Lounge shop, Gems as a regular in-game item
- Gold: Large sums of in-game currency
- Equipment: Rare weapons, armor, or accessories
- Consumables: Potions, buffs, or one-time-use items
- Cosmetics: Custom titles, badges, or vanity items
