Specialties
Master your chosen magical discipline and unlock powerful abilities
What are Specialties?
Specialties represent your character's focused area of magical study. While you learn all subjects at Hogwarts, your specialty is the one you excel at - the magic you've dedicated yourself to mastering. Each specialty provides unique combat abilities, passive bonuses, and special powers that can turn the tide of battle.
You choose your specialty once you've proven yourself capable (usually after a few Voldemort Encounters). Choose wisely - changing specialties is difficult or impossible depending on server settings.

📚 Other Specialties
Varies by server
Additional specialties may be available depending on your server's installed modules. Check the specialty selection screen to see all available options.
How Specialties Work
Each specialty provides:
- Combat Abilities: Special powers you can use during fights
- Skill Points: Earned through use and VE progression, unlock stronger abilities
- Daily Uses: Most specialty powers have limited uses per day (reset at newday)
- Passive Bonuses: Some specialties provide always-active benefits
Choosing Your Specialty
Consider these factors when choosing:
Selection Criteria:
- Playstyle: Offensive (Dark Arts), Defensive (DADA), Support (Herbology), Utility (Charms)
- Alignment: Dark Arts suits evil characters, DADA suits good characters
- Complexity: Some specialties are simple (Dark Arts), others complex (Transfiguration)
- Synergy: Match your specialty to your race and equipment choices
- Availability: Some specialties require VEs or specific modules
Leveling Your Specialty
As you use your specialty powers and defeat enemies, you earn skill points. Higher skill levels unlock:
- More powerful versions of existing abilities
- Additional daily uses of specialty powers
- New abilities and effects
- Passive bonuses that scale with skill level
Skill points are typically earned at Voldemort Encounters and through regular use of specialty abilities.
Specialty Strategy
Pro Tip: Your specialty choice is often permanent, so experiment with different playstyles on alternate characters before committing. Read the specialty descriptions carefully and ask experienced players for advice if you're unsure.
