The Lotto Ticket is a random Location Event that can occur while you're strolling through town. You'll spot what looks like a lottery ticket sitting in the middle of a rather large puddle of mud. The question is: do you wade into the mud to retrieve it, or do you dismiss it as a dud some litterbug carelessly discarded?
This is HogwartsLive's version of a scratch-off lottery ticket, except instead of scratching silver coating, you're fishing paper out of mud. The ticket might be a winner (free gold!), or it might be bait for a Slytherin prank (free humiliation!). Either way, it's free to try.
How the Event Works
The Discovery
While strolling through the village, you see what looks like a lotto ticket sitting in the middle of a rather large puddle of mud.
You're presented with two options:
- • Fish the ticket out: Wade into the mud and retrieve it
- • Hurry on: Walk away like a sensible person
If You Choose to Fish It Out
You remove your shoes, socks, and roll up your trouser legs as you wade into the mud to retrieve the ticket. Then one of two things happens:
🎉 Winner! (20% chance)
You retrieve the ticket and wipe off most of the mud. To your complete amazement you're holding a winner! It must have fallen out of someone's pocket as they were passing by.
Reward: 1% of your current gold (minimum varies by level)
You thank the gods for your good fortune and pocket the winnings.
💥 Slytherin Prank! (80% chance)
Startled by a sudden rustling in the bushes behind you, you swivel round to investigate. TOO LATE. A group of malicious-looking Slytherin students are laughing as a large ball is hurled straight at you.
You slip and fall into the mud, which covers you from head to toe in the slimy gloop.
Penalty: Lose 0.01% of your current Charm, rounded down — which works out to 0 for most players, and at most a sliver of a point for anyone with an enormous Charm stat
The Slytherins run off cackling. You're left muddy, humiliated, and slightly less charming.
Event Frequency
Random Village Encounters
The Lotto Ticket event appears randomly while you're navigating through the village. It's one of many possible random events that can occur during normal gameplay.
The event has a limited frequency — you won't see it constantly, since it's just one of many random location events competing for the same roll. That said, encountering it repeatedly doesn't make it any rarer — the odds of stumbling on the muddy ticket stay the same every time you're out and about, no matter how many times you've already fished a ticket out of the mud.

Should You Fish It Out?
The math is straightforward:
- • 20% chance: Win 1% of your current gold
- • 80% chance: Lose 0.01% of your current Charm (rounds down to 0 for most players)
Whether this is worth it depends on:
- • How much gold you have: If you're carrying a lot of gold, 1% could be significant
- • How much you value Charm: Charm affects certain social interactions and events
- • Your risk tolerance: Are you feeling lucky, punk?
Expected Value Analysis
For the mathematically inclined:
Expected gold gain: 0.20 × (1% of gold) = 0.2% of your gold on average
Expected charm loss: 0.80 × (0.01% of current charm) — a rounding error for almost every player
So on average, you'll gain a tiny bit of gold and lose an amount of charm too small to notice (it rounds down to nothing for most Charm totals). Practically speaking, the only real cost of fishing the ticket out is the small chance of walking away empty-handed and muddy — the charm "penalty" is mostly theater.
