Fantastic Beasts
Gotta catch 'em all — find, catalog, and capture magical creatures in our satirical Harry Potter parody game. Build your own collection of fantastic beasts and become a Magizoologist.
Creature Collecting: The Fantastic Beasts system lets you encounter, defeat, and capture magical creatures from the Forbidden Forest. Track your progress in a bestiary, earn Magizoologist ranks, and build a collection worthy of Newt Scamander himself (assuming you obtain his suitcase through legitimate means, of course).
How It Works
The Fantastic Beasts system adds a creature-collecting layer to HogwartsLive's combat system. As you fight creatures in the Forbidden Forest, the system automatically tracks which creatures you've encountered and defeated. Once you obtain Newt's Magical Suitcase, you can attempt to capture creatures after defeating them.
Think of it as a magical version of wildlife photography, except instead of taking pictures, you're stuffing creatures into an enchanted suitcase. It's perfectly humane, we promise. The suitcase is bigger on the inside and contains multiple habitats tailored to each creature's needs. Probably.
Getting Newt's Magical Suitcase
The Qilin Rescue Event
To start capturing creatures, you first need to obtain Newt's Magical Suitcase. This happens through the Qilin Rescue random forest event, where you encounter Newt Scamander trying to protect a baby Qilin from poachers.
You have several options during this event:
- • Help Newt: Fight the poachers and earn good alignment + the suitcase as a reward
- • Duel Newt: Fight Newt himself and steal the suitcase (evil alignment penalty)
- • Walk Away: Leave the situation and try again another day
Either way (helping or stealing), you'll end up with the suitcase. The difference is whether you feel good about it.
Alternative: Purchase the Suitcase
If you don't want to wait for the random event, you can purchase Newt's Magical Suitcase directly for gold (default: 5,000 gold). This is the legitimate, non-morally-questionable way to obtain the suitcase.
The suitcase is available for purchase at the Forest Reserve, which appears as a navigation option in the Forbidden Forest once the Fantastic Beasts module is active.
The Bestiary System
Tracking Your Encounters
The bestiary automatically tracks every unique creature you encounter in the Forbidden Forest:
- • First Encountered: When you first met this creature
- • Times Encountered: How many times you've fought this creature
- • Times Defeated: How many times you've won against this creature
- • Times Captured: How many times you've successfully captured this creature
You can view your bestiary at the Forest Reserve to see your complete creature catalog. It's like a Pokédex, but with more teeth and fewer cute mascots.
Capturing Creatures
How Capture Works
After defeating a creature in battle (and if you own the suitcase), you'll see an option to attempt capture. The capture system works as follows:
- • Base Chance: 30% chance to successfully capture (default setting)
- • Rank Bonus: Your Magizoologist rank increases capture chance
- • Success: Creature is added to your suitcase collection
- • Failure: Creature escapes, but you still gain Magizoologist points
Captured creatures are stored in your suitcase indefinitely. You can view your collection at the Forest Reserve and even give creatures nicknames (because every Niffler deserves a name like "Mr. Shiny" or "Pocket Thief").
Magizoologist Points & Ranks
You earn Magizoologist points through creature interactions:
- • New Encounter: 5 points (default) for encountering a new creature species
- • Successful Capture: 5 points (default) for each creature captured
As you accumulate points, you advance through Magizoologist ranks (default: 100 points per rank, max rank 10). Higher ranks increase your capture success rate and unlock special abilities or bonuses.
It's a progression system that rewards dedicated creature collectors. The more you engage with the system, the better you become at capturing creatures.
The Forest Reserve
Your Creature Management Hub
The Forest Reserve is accessible from the main Forbidden Forest page and serves as your central hub for all Fantastic Beasts activities:
- • View Bestiary: See all creatures you've encountered with detailed statistics
- • View Collection: Browse creatures you've captured in your suitcase
- • Manage Nicknames: Give your captured creatures personalized names
- • Check Progress: View your Magizoologist rank and points
- • Purchase Suitcase: Buy Newt's suitcase if you don't have it yet
The Reserve is where you'll spend time between forest fights reviewing your progress and planning which creatures to hunt next.
Strategy & Tips
Maximizing Your Collection
- • Get the suitcase early: The sooner you have it, the sooner you can start capturing
- • Fight diverse creatures: Encountering new species gives bonus Magizoologist points
- • Rank up before rare creatures: Higher ranks = better capture chance for tough creatures
- • Don't stress failed captures: You still get points and can try again next encounter
- • Use nicknames creatively: It makes your collection more personal and fun
Final Thoughts
The Fantastic Beasts system adds a compelling collection mechanic to HogwartsLive's combat system. It transforms routine forest fights into opportunities for discovery and progression. Whether you're a completionist trying to catalog every creature, a collector building the perfect menagerie, or just someone who wants to say "I have a Niffler named Kevin," this system offers long-term goals and rewards. Plus, it's one of the few features in our satirical Harry Potter parody game where you can feel good about your choices (assuming you helped Newt instead of dueling him, you monster).
