Character Backstory Prompts
Six short questions that turn a name into a person. Answer them and you have a character.
Give your student a past before the first lesson. Roll a set, answer what interests you, and ignore the rest.
- Who raised your character, and what did that person get wrong?
- What is your character hiding, and who nearly found out?
- What would a Boggart become for your character?
- Who is your character's rival, and what started it?
- What does your character always carry, and what happens if it is lost?
- What did your character's family say when the Hogwarts letter arrived?
How the prompts work
- Each set has six questions: family, a secret, a fear, a first-year memory, a rival and something your character carries.
- Pick a House and some questions lean toward it. Leave it blank for a neutral set.
- Nothing is stored and nothing leaves your browser.
Questions
Is the backstory generator free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no email and no limit on how many sets you roll.
Does it write the backstory for me?
No. It asks six questions and you answer them. The point is to give your character a past you chose.
Does the House change the questions?
Yes. Pick a House and some of the questions lean toward it. Leave it blank for a neutral set.
Is anything saved or sent?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and the name you type never leaves it.
