Villager's Hut

Location (appears in configured city, default: villagename). House with well-lit porch has bowl of free candy bags with note: "Hello Children! Please help yourselves to a bag!" Take 1-4 bags per day (max 3 total daily). Take 1-2 bags: gain HP (healthy feeling). Take 3 bags: SaucyWench appears, throws bucket of water, lose 15% HP. Take 4 bags: flee through thorn bushes, lose 35% HP and 1 charm. Small chance of random +2 turns bonus.

Frequency: Once per day entry, but can return to eat more bags (up to 3 total bags/day)

The Setup

"You walk towards the well-lit front porch of the house, wondering at the lovely colored lights in the windows. As you get to the door, there's a bowl filled with bags of sweets, and a note."

Note reads: "'Hello Children! Please help yourselves to a bag!'"

"You stand there for a moment, wondering what to do. The residents obviously aren't home. How many bags should you take?"

Outcomes by Greed Level

Eat 1 Bag - Polite (eattoday +1):

  • "You help yourself to a bag and begin to eat as you walk away"
  • "You feel healthy!"
  • HP gain: +3 HP OR +2% of current HP (whichever is higher)
  • Result: Small HP boost, safe choice
  • Can return for more (if eattoday <3)

Eat 2 Bags - Greedy (eattoday +2):

  • "You snatch two bags and greedily begin to eat as you walk away"
  • "You feel healthy!"
  • HP gain: +5 HP OR +3% of current HP (whichever is higher)
  • Result: Better HP boost than 1 bag, still safe
  • Can return for more (if eattoday <3)

Eat 3 Bags - Very Greedy (eattoday +3):

  • "A shout emerges from the shadows nearby"
  • "'You greedy pig!' it screams"
  • "The next thing you realize, you're sopping wet, and SaucyWench is standing there with an empty bucket in her hands"
  • "You feel miserable"
  • HP loss: -15% of current HP (reduced to 85% HP)
  • HP cannot drop below 1
  • Result: Punished for greed, lose health
  • Daily limit reached (eattoday = 3)

Eat 4 Bags - Extremely Greedy (eattoday +4):

  • "A shout emerges from the shadows nearby"
  • "'You greedy pig!' it screams"
  • "You flee in terror, jumping over some thorn bushes as you run, and your arms and legs are ripped painfully"
  • "You finally make it to the village square, only to trip onto your face in a most embarrassing manner"
  • "You flush in shame"
  • HP loss: -35% of current HP (reduced to 65% HP)
  • Charm loss: -1 charm (if charm >0)
  • HP cannot drop below 1
  • Result: Severely punished, lose health AND charm
  • Daily limit reached (eattoday = 4)

Random Bonus: +2 Turns

Chance: 12.5% (1 in 8) when eating bags

Trigger: After eating sweets, random roll determines if bonus occurs

Message: "Swallowing the last sweet, you realize there was something unusual mixed in with the mountain of sugar. You feel energized!"

Reward: +2 forest fights

Applies To: Any number of bags taken (1, 2, 3, or 4)

This bonus is independent of HP/charm outcomes - you can lose HP from eating 3 bags but still get +2 turns bonus.

Daily Limit System

Max Total Bags Per Day: 3 bags (eattoday pref)

Reset: eattoday resets to 0 at newday

Return Visits:

  • If eattoday = 1: Can return to eat 1 or 2 more bags
  • If eattoday = 2: Can return to eat 1 more bag
  • If eattoday ≥ 3: "You walk towards the hut again, but your stomach can't bear the thought of more of those sweets today!" (blocked)

Strategy: If you take 1 bag first visit, you can return and take 2 more bags = 3 total (hits daily limit).

Optimal Strategy

Best Approach - Two Visits:

  1. First Visit: Take 2 bags (+5 HP or +3% HP)
  2. Second Visit: Take 1 bag (+3 HP or +2% HP)
  3. Total: 3 bags (daily limit), +8 HP or +5% HP, safe outcomes, two chances at +2 turn bonus

Alternative - One Visit:

  • Take 2 bags (+5 HP or +3% HP), leave, don't return
  • Safer if you don't want to risk accidentally taking 3 bags on second visit

NEVER Take 3 or 4 Bags:

  • 3 bags: -15% HP is worse than the +HP you'd get from 2 bags
  • 4 bags: -35% HP and -1 charm is terrible
  • No benefit to greed - you just get punished

Turn Bonus Gambling:

  • 12.5% chance per visit
  • Making multiple visits (1 bag, then 2 bags) = two rolls at bonus = ~24% total chance
  • If you get +2 turns, massive value (turns worth more than small HP boost)

Expected Value Analysis

1 Bag: +3 HP (or +2% HP) + 12.5% chance of +2 turns = SAFE, SMALL GAIN

2 Bags: +5 HP (or +3% HP) + 12.5% chance of +2 turns = SAFE, BETTER GAIN

3 Bags: -15% HP + 12.5% chance of +2 turns = BAD (HP loss > potential turn gain)

4 Bags: -35% HP, -1 charm + 12.5% chance of +2 turns = TERRIBLE

Conclusion: Always take 1 or 2 bags. Never take 3 or 4. Optimal: take 2 bags, return for 1 more bag (3 total across visits).
