Strigoi Tower - Vampire Quest

A multi-stage vampire hunting adventure through a tower filled with hellhounds, wolves, bats, and one very angry Strigoi. Wooden stakes required.

What Is Strigoi Tower?

Strigoi Tower is a forest special encounter that unlocks a multi-stage vampire hunting adventure. Unlike simple one-off encounters, this is a complete quest spanning multiple visits to the forest, where you'll explore a vampire's tower, solve puzzles in a library, search a bedroom for clues, descend into a bat-infested basement, and ultimately confront "Strigoi the Vampire" in his inner sanctum. It's basically a dungeon crawler built into Legend of the Red Dragon, complete with mansion maps, fire safety signs, and a suspiciously convenient super fun slide.

The quest begins when you encounter a tree-like creature called Obliviax in the forest. After defeating it, you collect wooden stakes from its splinters, which qualify you to enter the vampire's tower. From there, the adventure unfolds across five main stages: acquiring stakes, exploring the library, searching the bedroom, fighting through the basement, and finally confronting Strigoi himself. Each stage resets your progress with "To Be Continued." messages, requiring multiple forest visits to complete the full quest.

Quest Stages Overview

The Five Stages:

  1. Stage 1 - Obliviax Fight: Defeat a tree creature to collect wooden stakes for vampire hunting
  2. Stage 2 - The Library: Navigate the mansion, solve a library puzzle, find the bedroom key
  3. Stage 3 - The Bedroom: Search the bedroom for clues, find the secret basement entrance
  4. Stage 4 - The Basement: Fight vampire bats, discover the inner sanctum entrance
  5. Stage 5 - Final Boss: Confront and defeat Strigoi the Vampire

Each stage ends with "To Be Continued." and requires a new forest visit to progress.

Stage 1: The Obliviax

Obtaining Wooden Stakes:

The quest begins when you encounter Obliviax, a tree-like creature in the forest:

  • Creature: Obliviax (tree-like creature)
  • Combat Stats: Same level, equal attack, player defense + (VEs × 0.1), 110% HP
  • Difficulty: Slightly harder than normal forest fights (higher defense)
  • Victory Rewards:
    • 200-400 gold
    • 1-2 gems
    • Level × (25-45) + (VEs × 4) experience
    • Wooden stakes (unlocks tower access)
  • Defeat Penalty: Death - lose 70% experience, all gold, armor becomes "T-Shirt"
  • Unique Mechanic: Eating Obliviax moss gives you memories/knowledge to find hidden treasure
  • News: "[Name] defeated the tree-like Obliviax in the forest"

After victory, the quest text explains: "You chop the Obliviax to pieces. Some of these pieces will make very useful stakes. Next time you come to the Vampire Tower you'll be ready to enter!"

Stage 2: The Library

Navigating the Mansion:

On your next forest visit, you can enter Strigoi Tower and navigate to the library:

  • Entrance: Tall door marked "Sanctum of Strigoi"
  • Fire Safety: There's a map labeled "In case of Fire, please identify all exits" (vampires are safety-conscious)
  • Map: Shows your location with "You are Here" arrow
  • Library Location: "Around the back" - follow the map

The Library Puzzle:

CRITICAL: Always read the paper marked "READ ME BEFORE DOING ANYTHING IN THE LIBRARY" first!

The library has four actions you can take, but the puzzle randomizes which is safe and which is dangerous:

  • 1. Search Bookcases:
    • Safe: Find key in 'How to Cook 40 Humans', fight Hellhound
    • Dangerous: Bookcases collapse, lose 25% HP, fight falling books then Hellhound
  • 2. Look Through Desk:
    • Safe: Find key behind bunny rabbit figurine, get 1 gem, fight Hellhound
    • Dangerous: Poison needle jabs you, lose 25% HP, fight Hellhound
  • 3. Examine Bear Rug:
    • Safe: Find key in bear's mouth, fight Hellhound
    • Dangerous: Rug is a REAL BEAR, lose 25% HP from bite, fight the bear then Hellhound
  • 4. Drink Fine Wine:
    • Safe: Drink "Vampire Wine" from Transylvania, find key in bottle, get +10% attack/defense buff for 10 rounds, fight Hellhound
    • Dangerous: It's grape juice (not wine!), get -10% attack/-5% defense debuff for 10 rounds, fight Hellhound

The Paper Reveals: Which option has the key (safe) and which option to avoid (dangerous). Example: "Do not search the bookcases. You set them up to collapse. The key is in the bear rug's mouth."

Library Encounters:

  • Hellhound (Always):
    • Level+1, 75% HP, player attack-1, player defense-1
    • Victory: Level × (45-55) + (VEs × 4) experience
    • Defeat: Death - lose 4% experience, all gold
  • Falling Books (If Failed):
    • Same level, 50% attack, 50% defense, 70% HP
    • Easy fight, then Hellhound appears
    • Book title: "The Artful Dodger"
  • Great Big Bear (If Failed):
    • Level-1 (minimum level 1)
    • 95-107% HP, full attack/defense
    • Victory: Level × 50 + (VEs × 7) experience
    • Then Hellhound appears

    • Under the bed (wolf hiding)
    • Closet (empty, but has a heart-shaped knot)

The Secret Passage:

On your next visit to the bedroom, you can push the heart-shaped knot:

The Strigoi Lore

"Strigoi" is a creature from Romanian folklore - a type of undead vampire or ghost. In Romanian mythology, strigoi are troubled souls risen from the grave, often described as having the ability to transform into animals, become invisible, or drain life force from the living. The concept predates Bram Stoker's Dracula and represents one of the original vampire legends from Eastern Europe.

The strigoi myth gained modern popularity through Guillermo del Toro's "The Strain" novel series and TV show (2014-2017), which featured strigoi as parasitic vampires with grotesque features and a vampiric virus infection system. HogwartsLive's "Strigoi Tower" module borrows the name and general vampire hunting theme while creating its own unique dungeon-crawler quest experience.

The module's writing style is deliberately campy and self-aware, with references to fire safety compliance, bears pretending to be rugs, grape juice masquerading as wine, and vampires who leave helpful "READ ME" notes in their libraries. It's vampire hunting as written by someone who loves both classic horror and meta-humor about classic horror tropes.

Module Info: The "Strigoi Tower" module (strigoitower.php in strigoitower/ directory) is a Forest Specials encounter that creates a multi-stage vampire hunting quest. The module features five stages across multiple forest visits: defeating Obliviax for wooden stakes, solving a randomized library puzzle, searching a bedroom for clues, fighting vampire bats in the basement, and confronting Strigoi the Vampire (Level+1, 130% HP, +2 attack/defense with vampire drain ability). Total rewards include 700-1,400 gold, 3-6 gems, and massive experience from multiple scaling combat encounters. The quest is repeatable and includes Easter eggs like the "Persistent" title and super fun slide. Auto-fight is disabled for bat and final boss encounters.
