Selene the Death Dealer

A leather-clad vampire hunter with perfect makeup, impossible parkour skills, and several cows' worth of dramatic billowing coat. Wind machine included.

What Is This Encounter?

Selene the Death Dealer is a forest special encounter that begins with rain falling "in that particularly cinematic way that suggests someone, somewhere, is about to have a very bad day." It's the kind of rain that doesn't just get you wet, but "seems to have a personal vendetta against the concept of dryness itself." The entire forest has taken on a distinctly blue tint, as if "the entire world has decided to cosplay as a moody music video from the early 2000s."

Standing atop a nearby ridge in an "aggressively dramatic pose" is a woman dressed in "several cows' worth of tight black leather." Her long coat billows in the wind with such perfect timing that you briefly wonder if she's hired someone specifically to operate a wind machine for these moments. This is Selene, Death Dealer of the Vampire Coven - or at least she was, until she realized that killing vampires was "much more satisfying than working with them. Office politics can be so tedious when they span centuries."

The encounter outcome depends entirely on your race. Vampires face mandatory combat against the hardest vampire-hunter boss in the game. Non-vampires can choose to help her hunt, tell her to leave, or attack her (which is described as having "delusions of adequacy"). Either way, you're dealing with someone whose makeup remains "flawlessly Gothic" despite standing in pouring rain, "a feat that defies both physics and cosmetic science."

Encounter Paths

For Vampires (FORCED COMBAT):

If you're a vampire, Selene immediately locks onto you "with the kind of intensity usually reserved for tax auditors who've just discovered a particularly interesting discrepancy":

  • Dramatic Entrance: Leaps from ridge with "completely unnecessary but undeniably impressive" series of flips
  • Recognition: "Vampire. I am Selene, Death Dealer of the Vampire Coven"
  • Motivation: "Nothing personal. Well, maybe a little personal. Your kind did kill my family"
  • Justification: "And then there was that whole 'being lied to for centuries' thing. So perhaps it's very personal after all"
  • Weapon Draw: Dual Desert Eagles drawn with "fluid motion of someone who practices this move in front of a mirror daily"
  • No Choice: You MUST fight - there is no talk, flee, or help option for vampires
  • Physics-Defying Makeup: Despite pouring rain, her makeup remains perfect (game acknowledges this miracle)

For Non-Vampires:

If you're not a vampire, Selene approaches with "parkour if it were a personality trait" and gives you three options:

Help Selene Hunt

You join Selene on a vampire hunting expedition:

  • Motivation: "Partly out of civic duty and partly because saying no to someone with that many weapons seems unwise"
  • Tracking: Selene examines "obvious vampire signs" (looks like ordinary forest debris to you)
  • Absurd Deduction: From a puddle, she determines: "Male. Approximately six feet tall. Favors his right leg. Pretentious taste in cologne"
  • Success: Selene kills a vampire with "accuracy that makes physics professors weep"
  • Reward: Vial of "lycan blood mixed with silver nitrate" = +25 HP healing potion
  • Bonus: +1 gem found on vampire's body
  • Science: "Something about antibodies and accelerated healing. I don't really understand the science"
  • Safe Option: No combat, no risk, excellent rewards
Tell Her to Leave
  • Selene's Reaction: Stares "with the blank expression of someone who's been asked to explain what clouds taste like"
  • Resume of Violence: "I've killed thousands of vampires. I've survived a war that's raged for centuries"
  • Best Achievement: "I once jumped from a skyscraper and landed without spilling my coffee"
  • Self-Description: "I am death incarnate to the undead"
  • Outcome: She leaves with vampire-hunting advice ("invest in silver bullets or a really pointy stick")
  • Reward: None, but you survive without combat
  • Exit: "Disappears with the dramatic flair of someone who's never known the simple joy of a casual exit"
Attack Her

You decide "anyone who wears that much leather in a damp forest clearly has questionable judgment":

  • Selene's Assessment: "A human with delusions of adequacy"
  • Warning: "I've been killing things that could tear you apart for centuries"
  • Lesson: "Don't pick fights with Death Dealers. It tends to significantly reduce your life expectancy"
  • Combat Stats: Level+2, 150% HP, 130% attack, 120% defense
  • Victory: 10% total XP (min 100) + level×100 gold + 2 gems
  • Defeat (NON-FATAL): Selene treats your wounds, takes 40% of your gold as "payment"
  • Medical Care: "Bedside manner of someone who learned first aid from a torture manual"
  • Survival: Heal to 30% max HP, live to fight another day

Victory & Defeat Outcomes

If Vampires Win:

  • Selene's Reaction: "Impressive. Most vampires can't even touch me. You're. different"
  • Philosophical Moment: "Perhaps the old stories are true. About the covenant. About how vampires and lycans were once. allies"
  • Threat: "This isn't over. The war never ends. But perhaps. perhaps there are exceptions"

    • +10% defense modifier

If Non-Vampires Win:

  • Selene's Reaction: "A human, defeating me? The others will never believe this. Not that I plan to tell them"
  • Compliment: "You fight well. For someone with such a tragically limited lifespan"
  • Gift: UV grenade ("Point the blue end at them, not at yourself. That's. important")
  • Dramatic Car: Sleek black car crashes through underbrush (wasn't there a moment ago)
  • Final Words: "I make a point of keeping track of humans who surprise me. There aren't many"
  • Experience Gain: 10% of total XP (minimum 100 XP)
  • Gold Reward: Level × 100 gold
  • Gem Reward: +2 gems

If Vampires Lose:

DEATH - NO TRANSFORMATION OPTION

  • Weapon: Silver-tipped bullets aimed at your heart
  • Selene's Judgment: "Pathetic. I expected more from you. You had. potential"
  • Achievement: "You lasted longer than most. Almost a full minute. That's practically a record"
  • Final Moment: "Death comes to us all. Even the immortal"
  • Death: Silver-tipped bullets to the heart
  • Experience Loss: Lose 15% total experience (WORST vampire death penalty)
  • Gold Loss: Lose ALL gold on hand
  • News: "[Name] was found in the Forbidden Forest, their body riddled with silver bullets and a strange blue liquid!"

If Non-Vampires Lose:

Unlike vampires, non-vampires survive defeat:

  • Assessment: "Brave. Stupid, but brave. There's a fine line between the two, and you've managed to obliterate it entirely"
  • Medical Treatment: Selene treats your wounds with "bedside manner of someone who learned first aid from a torture manual"
  • Warning: "This will hurt. A lot. But it's better than bleeding out in a forest where no one will find your body until it's being used as a squirrel condominium"
  • Lesson: "Know when you're outmatched. It might save your life next time"
  • Payment: Selene takes 40% of your gold as "payment for medical supplies. And because you tried to kill me"
  • Healing: Restored to 30% max HP
  • Survival: You live to contemplate your poor life choices

The Writing Style

Peak Energy:

This encounter is written with the kind of dry, absurdist humor that makes you laugh out loud while reading combat descriptions:

  • "Personal Vendetta Against Dryness": Rain that actively hates the concept of being dry
  • "Cosplay as a Moody Music Video": The blue-tinted forest aesthetic
  • "Several Cows' Worth": Description of Selene's leather outfit
  • "Wind Machine for These Moments": Her perfectly billowing coat
  • "Hans Zimmer Score": Background music implication
  • "Tax Auditors": Comparison for intensity of Selene's stare
  • "Twilight Convention": Literary critics' contempt reference
  • "Parkour as a Personality Trait": Selene's movement style
  • "Fashion Disasters in the 1980s": Universal truth about vampire fashion
  • "Delusions of Adequacy": Assessment of humans who attack her
  • "Awards for Dramatic Exhalation": Selene's practiced sighs
  • "Squirrel Condominium": Where your body will end up if you bleed out
  • "Torture Manual First Aid": Selene's medical training background

The Underworld Connection

References to the Film Series:

This encounter is a loving parody of the "Underworld" film series starring Kate Beckinsale as Selene:

  • Character: Selene is the protagonist of Underworld - a Death Dealer (elite vampire warrior)
  • Blue Tint: The films are famous for their blue color grading throughout
  • Leather Outfit: Selene's iconic tight black leather bodysuit and coat
  • Dual Pistols: Her signature weapons are twin handguns (Desert Eagles in some films)
  • Parkour Combat: The films feature elaborate acrobatic fight sequences
  • Family Killed: In the films, Selene's family was killed by lycans (werewolves)
  • Vampire-Lycan War: The central conflict of the Underworld series
  • "The Covenant": Direct reference to Underworld lore about vampire-lycan history
  • Silver-Tipped Bullets: Used in the films against both vampires and lycans
  • "Strange Blue Liquid": Reference to the UV-based weapons in the films
  • Sleek Black Car: Selene drives various high-tech vehicles throughout the series
  • Centuries-Old War: The vampire-lycan conflict spans hundreds of years in Underworld lore

The module perfectly captures the films' aesthetic while gently mocking the over-the-top stylization - the blue filter, the excessive leather, the impossibly perfect makeup in rain, the dramatic poses, and the parkour-heavy combat. Selene's deadpan delivery and monotone voice are straight from Kate Beckinsale's performance.

Strategy & Tips

Surviving (or Defeating) Selene

  • Vampires - Prepare to Die: This is the HARDEST vampire encounter in the game - 180% HP, 150% attack
  • Vampires - High Risk, High Reward: 15% XP + 3 gems + 15-round combat buff if you win
  • Vampires - Death Penalty: 15% XP loss (worst vampire death) - only fight if you're confident
  • Non-Vampires - Best Option: Help Selene hunt for +25 HP and +1 gem with zero risk
  • Non-Vampires - Combat Risk: She's tough (150% HP, 130% attack) but won't kill you on defeat
  • Non-Vampires - Defeat Cost: Only 40% gold loss, healed to 30% HP
  • Tell Her to Leave: Safe but unrewarding - only choose if you want to avoid engagement entirely
  • Combat Preparation: Bring your best gear - Selene is Level+2 with high defense (120%)
  • Vampire Combat Buff: If you win as vampire, the 15-round +20% attack buff is excellent for boss fights
  • XP Scaling: 15% total XP for vampires is the highest vampire encounter reward in the game
  • Gem Farming: 3 gems for vampires, 2 for non-vampires (on victory) - excellent rewards
  • Non-Combat Path: Helping Selene gives +25 HP (better than Van Helsing's +15 HP)

Comparison to Other Vampire Hunters

Selene vs Other Hunters:

Hunter vs Vampire HP vs Vampire Attack XP Reward Death?
Selene 180% 150% 15% Yes (15% XP loss)
Van Helsing 120% 110% 10% No (forced fight)
Blade (N/A) No Blade module found

Selene's Niche: Hardest vampire hunter by far, highest rewards, only one with potential vampire death. She's the endgame boss of vampire hunters.

Module Info: It's a Forest Specials encounter with a probability of 75, requiring the racevampire module. Vampires face forced combat (Level+2, 180% HP, 150% attack, 120% defense) with 15% XP reward + 3 gems + combat buff on victory, or death with 15% XP loss on defeat. Non-vampires can help her hunt (+25 HP + 1 gem), tell her to leave (safe), or fight (10% XP + level×100 gold + 2 gems on victory, 40% gold loss on defeat but survive). Features extensive Underworld film series references and peak humor throughout the writing.
