Order of the Phoenix
Guild system located at Grimmauld Place (Sirius Black's house). Join for 10 gems to fight against Voldemort's forces. Earn merits by killing evil forest creatures (graveyard flag), lose HP if you kill innocents. Spend merits on: specialty uses (3 merits), gems (7 merits), or +1 attack/defense bonuses (20 merits, once per VE — resets on dragon kill). Maximum 30 merits held. Leaving refunds 10 gems if you have unspent merits, DEATH if you have 0 merits. Mutually exclusive with Slayer's Guild. First join grants +50 alignment. Where the secret society fighting Voldemort operates as a merit-based rewards program with extremely punitive cancellation policies.

Spending Merits
Three Reward Categories:
1. Increase Specialty Uses (3 Merits)
- Cost: 3 merits (special setting)
- Reward: +1 specialty use per game day
- Bonus: +3 skill points in your specialty
- Repeatable: Yes (unlimited purchases)
- Integration: Works with specialty modules
- Flavor: "Sirius Black extracts the merits from you with a summoning charm"
2. Forge a Gem (7 Merits)
- Cost: 7 merits (gems setting)
- Reward: +1 gem
- Repeatable: Yes (unlimited purchases)
- Value: Convert combat effort into gem currency
- Flavor: "Sirius hands over a gem" after extracting merits
3. Stat Bonuses (20 Merits Each)
- Attack Increase:
- Cost: 20 merits (atkdef setting)
- Reward: +1 attack (resets on dragon kill)
- Limit: Once per VE
- Method: "Sirius hands you a dark potion. raw strength flows through you"
- Defense Increase:
- Cost: 20 merits (atkdef setting)
- Reward: +1 defense (resets on dragon kill)
- Limit: Once per VE
- Method: "Sirius casts Protego. your skin gets heavier"
- HP Increase: DISABLED (commented out in code)
Stat Bonus Mechanics:
- Can buy +1 attack AND +1 defense per VE (not mutually exclusive)
- After purchasing: Option disappears until next dragon kill
- Counters reset at dragon kill (atk/def/hp flags → 0)
- Bonuses reset each VE (dragon kill) — not permanent
- Most expensive merit purchase (20 merits = 140 graveyard kills)
Merit Spending Strategy
Value Analysis:
- Specialty Uses (3 merits):
- Best value: +1 use + 3 skill points
- Repeatable, flexible utility
- Depends on specialty value (varies by module)
- Gems (7 merits):
- Medium value: 7 graveyard kills → 1 gem
- Useful for gem purchases (mounts, items, etc.)
- Alternative to donating for gems
- Attack/Defense (20 merits):
- Highest cost: 20 graveyard kills → +1 stat
- Permanent bonus (never resets)
- Limited to once per VE (140 total kills for both)
- Best long-term investment if patient
Optimal Spending Path:
- Priority 1: Buy attack AND defense each VE (20 merits × 2 = 40 merits)
- Priority 2: Buy specialty uses (3 merits each)
- Priority 3: Convert excess to gems (7 merits each)
- Never: Sit at 30 merit cap without spending (waste potential earnings)
Merit Farming Rate:
- Assuming 50% of forest creatures are graveyard creatures:
- 20 forest fights → ~10 graveyard kills → 10 merits per day
- Attack bonus: 20 merits = 2 days of grinding
- Defense bonus: 20 merits = 2 more days
- Both bonuses: 40 merits = 4 days per VE
Leaving the Order
Leave Process:
- Speak to Sirius Black → "Leave the Order" option
- Confirmation required (irreversible choice)
- Sirius casts "Obliviate!" (memory modification)
- Outcome depends on current merit count
If You Have Merits (> 0):
- Sirius says: "`&I shall spare your body from death.`7\""
- Refund: +10 gems
- Lose: All unspent merits (set to 0)
- Lose: Order membership (apply flag → 0)
- Survive: No death, no experience loss
If You Have 0 Merits:
- Sirius says: "`&I now have to take your life to protect the Order.`7\""
- Refund: +10 gems (small consolation)
- Penalty: DEATH (hitpoints → 0, alive → 0)
- Penalty: -10% experience (default experienceloss setting)
- News: "The meritless body of faithful member %s was found on an old trail"
- Consequence: Graveyard visit required
Strategic Implications:
- Never leave at 0 merits (guaranteed death)
- Always keep 1+ merits if you might want to leave
- Spend down to 1-2 merits before leaving (minimize waste)
- Death is permanent penalty (lose experience, time, graveyard wait)
Grimmauld Place Description
Location Atmosphere:
- "Dark foyer of a seemingly long-neglected house"
- "Cobwebby hallway lit with several gas lamps"
- "Gloomy and dark" ambiance
- "Threadbare carpet, wallpaper peeling in spots"
- "Strange umbrella stand made from severed troll leg"
- Sirius's late mother's home (canonical)
Inner Chambers:

- "Flicking his wand, sparkling lights fly out of your skull"
- Merit count displayed as glowing number
- Magical merit extraction/spending visualization
Integration with Other Systems
Alignment Module:
- First join: +50 alignment (good shift)
- Each graveyard kill: +1 alignment
- Reinforces good-aligned playstyle
- Encourages killing evil creatures over neutral/good
Slayer's Guild:
- Mutually exclusive: Cannot join both
- If Slayer's member: Order navigation blocked
- Must choose one guild path
Specialty Modules:
- Merit spending increases specialty uses
- Works with any specialty module
- Adds +3 skill points per purchase
Dragon Kill Hook:
- Resets attack/defense purchase flags (atk → 0, def → 0)
- Allows buying stat bonuses again each VE
- Encourages regular merit spending cycle
Character Stats Display
Merit Counter:
- Preference: user_showmerit (default: enabled)
- Displays current merits in "Personal Info" section
- Only shows if you're Order member (apply = 1)
- Updates in real-time as you earn/spend
Bio Info (Disabled):
- Originally displayed: "%s is a member of the Order of the Phoenix"
- Now commented out (lines 134-140)

Strategy Guide
Should You Join?:
- Yes, if:
- You're good-aligned (or want +50 alignment boost)
- You kill many forest creatures daily (merit farm potential)
- You want +1 atk/def each VE (resets on dragon kill)
- You want specialty use increases
- No, if:
- You prefer Slayer's Guild (mutually exclusive)
- You don't have 10 gems to spare
- You rarely fight forest creatures (low merit gain)
- You're evil-aligned (alignment penalty hurts)
Optimal Play Pattern:
- Day 1: Join Order (10 gems), earn merits from forest fights
- Days 2-3: Farm 20 merits, buy +1 attack
- Days 4-5: Farm 20 more merits, buy +1 defense
- Days 6+: Farm merits, buy specialty uses (3 merits each)
- At Cap: Convert excess merits to gems (7 merits → 1 gem)
- Dragon Kill: Repeat cycle (attack/defense purchases reset)
Avoiding Death on Leave:
- Always maintain 1+ unspent merits if you might leave
- Spend down to 1-2 merits before leaving (don't waste 29 merits)
- If 0 merits: Farm 1 graveyard kill before leaving
- Death penalty: 10% experience loss + graveyard time (significant cost)
Advanced Mechanics
Graveyard Flag:
- Creatures have graveyard=true or false in their data
- True: Evil creatures (Death Eaters, dark wizards, evil monsters)
- False: Innocent creatures (normal animals, neutral creatures)
- Order checks this flag on battle-victory hook
- Only graveyard=true creatures grant merits
HP Penalty Death:
- If HP ≤ hploss (default: 1) after innocent kill → death
- Death logged: "died from sending an innocent"
- Redirects to special death page: runmodule.php?module=holyguild&op=dead&op2=forest
- Message: "You expended too much energy trying to convert an already pure soul"
- Hear Bellatrix's voice calling from graveyard
Leave Death:
- If merits = 0 on leave confirmation → instant death
- Death message: "pain from the good leaving your body has left you crippled"
- Body found news: "meritless body of faithful member %s was found on an old trail"
- Public shame + experience loss + graveyard wait

- No HP Bonus: HP increase option disabled (commented out)
- Alignment Reveal: Membership implies good alignment (bio display disabled)
Order of the Phoenix: where joining a secret society dedicated to fighting Voldemort involves paying Sirius Black 10 gems (membership fee for anti-fascist resistance apparently requires upfront capital), receiving +50 alignment to instantly become more good-aligned whether you want to or not (first time only, subsequent joins don't boost your morality because you already proved you're willing to pay for virtue), then embarking on a merit-farming grind where you earn 1 merit per evil forest creature killed (graveyard=true flag) while LOSING 1 HP (and gaining 0 merits) for killing innocent creatures because "sending an already pure soul" wastes your energy so hard it physically damages you, and if that HP loss drops you to 0 you straight-up die with the debug log noting "died from sending an innocent" which is the most passive-aggressive death message in the game. You spend merits on: +1 specialty use for 3 merits (repeatable, best value), +1 gem for 7 merits (repeatable, decent conversion rate), or +1 attack/defense for 20 merits each (once per VE, resets at dragon kill — not permanent, requires 140 total graveyard creature kills to afford both bonuses each VE cycle). The HP increase option is completely disabled (commented out in code) so don't even think about it. Maximum merits held: 30, so you must spend strategically or waste potential earnings. Leaving the Order triggers Sirius casting "Obliviate!" memory modification spell and refunding your original 10 gems, but if you have 0 unspent merits he says "I now have to take your life to protect the Order. Goodbye, faithful member" and KILLS YOU (hitpoints → 0, -10% experience, public news about your "meritless body" found on a trail, graveyard visit required), whereas if you have even 1 merit he "spares your body from death" and you survive (lose all merits but keep your life). It's mutually exclusive with Slayer's Guild, integrates with alignment module (+1 per graveyard kill), and operates from Grimmauld Place described as a "dark foyer of a seemingly long-neglected house" with "cobwebby hallway," "threadbare carpet," "peeling wallpaper," and a "strange umbrella stand made from a severed troll leg" because apparently the Order of the Phoenix can't afford interior decorating despite charging 10 gems per member.
