Name Colorization

A clerk in the Lounge who, for a fee, will let you write your own name in something other than the house font. The color codes are the same ones the rest of the castle already uses everywhere text appears: backtick, then a character, and everything after it takes on that color until the next code interrupts it. You never have to memorize the character. The swatches below show you exactly what each one produces.

What It Costs

  • First change: 2,000 Donator Points.
  • Every change after that: 5,000 Donator Points.
  • 20% off while your VIP Membership is active: 1,600 for the first change, 4,000 for every one after. The moment membership lapses, the full price returns at whatever rate you were already on: a discounted change still counts as a change, so the next one after a lapse is billed at 5,000, not 2,000, if your discounted one was technically your first.

Every Color, Shown

Forty-one colors. Each swatch below is the actual color the code renders as, not an approximation, followed by its code in the format you type it. Bold and italic exist too, as their own separate codes, and count toward the same 10-code ceiling described below, but they change the typeface rather than the color, so there is no swatch for either: nothing here would tell you what bold looks like that your own eyes couldn't.

Building a Colored Name

Type your name with codes inserted wherever the color should change. `4Harry`2Potter gives you a dark red "Harry" running straight into a dark green "Potter," with no space needed between the code and the letters it colors. Hand the office your name and it shows you exactly how it will look, then asks whether you meant it, before anything is spent.

The 10-code ceiling counts every code in the string: colors, bold, italic, all of it. Ask for an eleventh and the clerk simply declines the whole request, spending nothing.

Where a Colored Name Shows Up

Everywhere your name is printed: chat, commentary, combat logs, the online list, leaderboards, your character bio. There is no separate surface where the plain version still shows through.

Removing It

Buy another change and submit your name with no codes at all. This still costs the going rate: the office charges for the change, not for the presence of color specifically, so a name you decide to plainen back out costs exactly as much as one you decide to light up.

Name Colorization: the one place in the castle where legibility and self-expression are openly, cheerfully, at war, and the castle has decided not to referee.
