FAQ Quiz

How It Works

Chat Block: New players cannot post in chat/commentary until passing quiz.

Mute Message: "You must read the F.A.Q. and get a perfect score on the F.A.Q. Quiz before you can chat."

Quiz Access: Available in Village and Shades navigation (always accessible, even with other nav blockers active).

Perfect Score Required: Must answer all questions correctly in single attempt to unlock chat.

Quiz Structure

5 Rounds Total:

• Round 1: Basic gameplay (purpose, leveling, turns, problems, name colors, mounts)
• Round 2: Game mechanics (resurrection, HP at low level, buffs, charm, titles)
• Round 3: Technical issues (PVP timing, errors, downtime, popups, blog owls, field deaths)
• Round 4: Rules & conduct (FAQ importance, bugs/exploits, chat filter, taunting, spam, chatspeak)
• Round 5: Policies (alternate accounts, personal info, warnings, advertising, controversial topics)

Each round randomly selects 1 question from 6 possible questions in that category.

Question Examples

Round 1 - Gameplay:

• Q: "What is the purpose of this game?" A: "To find and defeat Voldemort"
• Q: "How do you increase your level?" A: "By challenging and defeating your Professor"
• Q: "How can one get more turns?" A: "By waiting for the new day to begin"
• Q: "What are mounts on HL?" A: "It is a broom or animal that helps you fight in the forest"

Round 2 - Mechanics:

• Q: "How can I become alive again?" A: "Torment to gain favor and ask Bellatrix to resurrect you"
• Q: "Why do some people have so many hitpoints at low level?" A: "They have more Voldemort Encounters"
• Q: "What's a buff?" A: "An affliction which can temporarily or permanently affect your stats"
• Q: "How do I get a new title?" A: "Encounter and then defeat Voldemort"

Round 4 - Rules:

• Q: "Should you always read the FAQ?" A: "Yes. Newbies must read the FAQ, or die!"
• Q: "What's HL's opinion on bugs and exploits?" A: "Back off, and report exactly what happened via petition"
• Q: "Is taunting other players OK?" A: "Some slight teasing is OK, as long as it is site roleplayed and related to HL. No individual targets"

Round 5 - Policies:

• Q: "Are you allowed to have alternate characters?" A: "Yes, as long as they don't interact, and you have no more than 4 accounts total"
• Q: "Can you post personal information?" A: "Personal information cannot be posted in chat, but can be shared through Owls, at your own risk"
• Q: "Are you allowed to advertise other websites?" A: "No, you may not advertise other websites anywhere on HL"

Passing & Failing

Pass (Perfect Score):

• Message: "Congrats! You've passed the FAQ Quiz with flying colors!"
• "As a result you've been granted the ability to chat with others"
• User pref "passed_quiz" set to 1
• Chat/commentary immediately unlocked
• Cannot retake quiz (already passed)

Fail (Any Wrong Answers):

• Message: "Oh no! You got X out of 5 questions wrong"
• "Unfortunately, the Hogwarts Live staff requires you to get a perfect score on the FAQ Quiz before you can speak in chat"
• "You do, however, have the opportunity to resit the quiz (remember to study first, though)!"
• Must restart quiz from Round 1
• Chat remains blocked

Admin FAQ Mute System

Purpose: Force players to retake quiz as punishment for rule violations.

How Admins Use It:

1. Visit player bio
2. Click "FAQmute player" option (only visible to admins with comment edit permissions)
3. Player's "passed_quiz" pref reset to 0
4. Player immediately loses chat access
5. Must retake and pass quiz with perfect score to regain chat

Common Reasons for FAQ Mute: Spam, inappropriate content, ignoring warnings, repeated rule violations, chatspeak abuse.

Strategy

Study the FAQ First: Actually read the FAQ page before taking quiz. All answers come directly from FAQ.

Take Notes: Questions are randomly selected, so you might not get the same ones on retakes. Understand concepts, not just memorize answers.

Key Topics to Study:

• How to level up (defeat Professor)
• How to resurrect (100 favor → Bellatrix)
• What buffs/mounts/charm do
• Bug reporting procedure (petition with details)
• Chat rules (no spam, taunting, personal info in chat, advertising)
• Alternate account policy (max 4, no interaction)
• Chatspeak policy (discouraged, may get warning)

Don't Rush: Read each question carefully. Answers often have similar wording but very different meanings.

Avoid FAQ Mute: Follow chat rules to avoid being forced to retake quiz. Retaking is annoying.
