- Miss out on both buff and basket game
The Basket Game
Mrs. Figg's Proposition (In Verse):
- "Of these baskets, have I three,
- Four kittens inside each there do be.
- Minds of their own, do they have,
- Should two alike emerge, you'll get this salve.
- Energy it gives, to fight your foes,
- Merely rub it 'tween your toes.
- Should no two alike show their head,
- Earlier today, you'll see your bed.
- That then is my proposition,
- Shall thou take it, or from me run?"
The Choice:
- Play: Accept game (proceed to basket thumping)
- Run away: "You run, very quickly, away from this mad woman." (abort, keep buff)
Basket Mechanics
The Thumping:
- Mrs. Figg thumps each basket on lid
- Basket 1: Kitten peeks head out
- Basket 2: Kitten peeks head out
- Basket 3: Kitten hops out, bounds to Mrs. Figg's shoulder
- Each basket contains 1 randomly-selected kitten
Kitten Colors (Random):
- Calico (multi-colored)
- Tiger (striped)
- Ginger (orange)
- White
- Hedgehog! (5% rare, jackpot creature)
Outcome Probability:
- Each basket: 75% kitten (random color), 5% hedgehog, 20% repeat roll
- 3 different colors: High probability (no matches)
- 2 matching colors: Medium probability
- 3 matching colors: Low probability
- 3 hedgehogs: 0.125% (1 in 800 chance) - jackpot!
Basket Outcomes
3 Hedgehogs (JACKPOT):
- Probability: ~0.125%
- Mrs. Figg: "Hedgehogs? HEDGEHOGS?? Hahahahaha, HEDGEHOGS!!!!"
- She snatches them up in glee, runs cheering into forest/crowd
- Drops FULL BAG of salves
- Reward: +5 forest fights
- Massive jackpot (equivalent to ~5 gems value)
3 Same Color (Not Hedgehogs):
- Probability: Low (~5-10%)
- Mrs. Figg: "Argh, you are ALL very bad kittens!"
- Hugs shoulder kitten, puts it back
- "Because my kittens all were alike, I grant you TWO salves."
- Reward: +2 forest fights
- Good outcome
2 Same Color:
- Probability: Medium (~40-50%)
- Mrs. Figg: "Garr, you crazy kittens, what do you know? Why I ought to paint you all different colors!"
- Despite threats, pets shoulder kitten gently
- Gives you one salve, you rub it on toes
- Reward: +1 forest fight
- Break-even outcome
All Different Colors (LOSE):
- Probability: Medium-High (~40-50%)
- Mrs. Figg: "Well done my pretties!"
- Shoulder kitten leaps at you
- You fend it off:
- If you have turns left: Lose 1 turn (-1 forest fight)
- If you have 0 turns: Lose 1 charm (-1 charm point)
- Mrs. Figg cackles quietly
- Bad outcome
Strategy Guide
Expected Value Analysis:
- Cost: 5 gold + 1 forest fight (time to play)
- Benefit: +5% defense buff (5 rounds) + gambling outcome
- Average outcome: Roughly break-even on turns
- Worth it for buff alone (5 gold for +5% defense is cheap)
- Gamble is bonus entertainment
When to Play:
- Always play if you have 5 gold: Buff is worth it
- Spare turns: If low on turns, losing 1 hurts more
- Spare charm: If at 0 turns, check charm first
- Fun factor: Entertaining random event
When to Run:
- 0 turns AND low charm (can't afford either loss)
- In a hurry (don't want RNG delays)
- Hate Mrs. Figg's poetry
Optimal Play:
- Always pet animals (5 gold for buff is good value)
- Play basket game unless critically low resources
- Hope for hedgehogs (dream big)
- Accept occasional losses as cost of gambling

Harry Potter Canon
Mrs. Figg (Arabella Figg):
- Squib (non-magical person born to magical family)
- Neighbor of Dursleys on Privet Drive
- Order of the Phoenix member
- Assigned to watch over Harry as child
- Obsessed with cats (has multiple named cats in books)
- Described as "batty" but actually competent spy
Module Adaptation:
- Exaggerates her eccentricity ("crazy" descriptor)
- Gives her magical animal-gambling game
- Places her in Forbidden Forest (non-canon)
- Keeps cat obsession theme
- Maintains "batty old lady" presentation
The Hedgehog Mystery
Why Hedgehogs?
- Hedgehogs are NOT cats (obvious observation)
- Mrs. Figg's extreme reaction suggests she REALLY wants hedgehogs
- "HEDGEHOGS?? Hahahahaha, HEDGEHOGS!!!!"
- Runs off cheering with them
- Implies hedgehogs are valuable/rare
- Or she just really likes hedgehogs
- Module doesn't explain (adds to absurdity)
Crazy Audrey's Petting Zoo: where you encounter Mrs. Figg (Harry Potter's batty cat lady neighbor) in the Forbidden Forest or randomly in the village square with her kittens, pay her 5 gold to pet them for a few minutes before she chases you off, receive a "Warm Fuzzies" buff that gives +5% defense for 5 rounds, then she suddenly switches into regal poetic verse to propose a gambling game involving three baskets containing four kittens each with minds of their own. She thumps each basket and out pops a random colored kitten (Calico, Tiger, Ginger, White) or rarely a hedgehog, and if you get 3 matching colors you win 2 forest fights, 2 matching wins 1 fight, all different means a kitten attacks you costing 1 turn or 1 charm, but if you miraculously roll 3 hedgehogs she loses her absolute mind screaming "HEDGEHOGS!!!!" and drops an entire bag of salves worth 5 forest fights before running into the forest cackling. You can only play once per day, and if you try again she calls you a "pervy kitten fancier" and makes you leave. The entire module is fully customizable to replace kittens with any animal (puppies, dragons, owls) and the admin can temporarily swap animals for special events, but the core absurdist gambling-with-cat-lady-in-forest mechanics remain unchanged.
