The Christmas Elf

Once a year, around December 25, a Christmas Elf is dispatched to the village square to discharge a quantity of goodwill that Management has calculated to the knut and resents having budgeted. It does not roll dice and it does not hide: walk into the village on the day and it is simply there, clipboard out, three thousand deliveries behind, working through a list with your name on it. Talk to it and it will, with great reluctance, give you things.

How It Works

  • Guaranteed, not random. Other village encounters roll dice. The elf does not. On the day it is waiting in the square every single time you arrive — a "talk to the Christmas Elf" option that does not depend on luck.
  • It waits a few days. If you weren't around on the 25th, the elf is still there for a short grace period afterward — it would rather hand the gold over late than carry it back to the void.
  • Once per year. You collect once per Christmas. Accept the gift and the elf moves on to the next name; there are a great many names.

What It Brings

  • Guaranteed gold, pressed into your hands with the ceremony of a man stapling a receipt.
  • A Festive Glow — a buff that mends you for a while, scaled to your level.
  • Occasionally a gem, dropped on top with the words "don't make it weird."

You may decline, suspiciously. The elf marks this down with grim satisfaction and is still there the next day, because the season is not over and neither is the paperwork.

What It Is Not

The Christmas Elf does not sell anything. There is no store, no bundle, no "limited offer." It hands things over and leaves. It is one visit a year, and the gold is real, and that is the whole arrangement. See also the Halloween Elf and the Birthday Elf, who work the other shifts.
