Beggar Encounter

A bony hand clutches your ankle as you cut through an alley. A frail old beggar asks for a coin. Will you be generous? Random outcomes include nothing, rocks, gems, death by kindness, charm gains, and alignment changes.

How It Works

Random Location Event (20% chance by default). Appears once per day. Give gold (1 coin), gems (1 gem), all gold (1000+), or decline.

Outcomes - Give Coin

  • 43% - No thank you, beggar leaves
  • 29% - Beggar gives you a "special" rock (worthless)
  • 29% - Beggar gives you a gem (profit!)

Outcomes - Give Gem

Costs 1 gem, grants +2 charm and news announcement. Three outcomes:

  • 33% - Beggar treasures your "glass"
  • 33% - Beggar throws your gem in drain (ungrateful)
  • 33% - Beggar jubilantly sells it to Aberforth

All outcomes grant charm with your lover.

Outcomes - Give All Gold

Costs all gold (min 1000), grants +3 charm. Three outcomes:

  • 33% - Beggar dies of heart attack from excitement (you killed him with kindness!)
  • 33% - Beggar complains about arthritis, steals your gold anyway
  • 33% - Beggar gives it to a "minister" for moon ship tickets

News announcement for generosity.

Alignment Effects

  • Give Gold: +1 alignment (good)
  • Give Gem: +2 alignment
  • Give All: +3 alignment
  • Decline: -1 alignment (evil)

The beggar is half-blind, thinks gems are glass, and has terrible arthritis. Your kindness may or may not kill him. Such is life in the wizarding world.
