Explanation of recent slowness and temporary downtime
Hi All,
You may have noticed that the site has been a bit slow lately and we even experienced some small outages. Some of our ex-players decided to go script kiddie on us and retaliated their bans via a series of automated attacks that overburdened our server. This made the site inaccessible to all instead of just to those who were banned.
Over the past couple days I have been making a number of security improvements to mitigate the impact of further attacks of this nature. If the safeguards I have put in place should be overcome our data center will block the malicious traffic and notify the proper authorities.
In addition to this I have asked Alchemist Edmund to return to his role of system administrator. This means that if the site should go down again I won't be the only one who can bring it back up.
I appreciate your continued patience and understanding concerning this matter.

well that is disappointing to find that ex-players would try to ruin the site for everyone. i sure hope they stop it before they get into real trouble. thanks for taking the time and care to address the issue, Danilo, i appreciate it.

About time. No offense, D. What is being done is immature, pathetic, and nonsensical. In the real world, you do the crime, you do the time. In HL world, it should apply as well. If these idiots that keep evading their ban think what they are doing is smart. It isn't. You aren't proving anything to anyone. Just that you are a complete fool. Go outside, get a tan, and grow up.
I agree with AP, I think it's sad but I am glad you're taking the extra precautions, Danilo :)
I just got off FB. You would be surprised how many people actually supported the people responsible. I was actually the one called immature, because I stood up for Pam, who had her account hacked and muted because of this.
Well, Tensai, I saw the comments. You were being a tad unreasonable and immature due to getting involved in something so extremely that didn't involve you. At all. Just sayin. Not defending the other guys, but still.

Well thats good and all, that there are extra precautions that are being taken to defend the people who are actually interested in staying on the site, and keeping the site a safe place, instead of getting hacked.
I really dont think that messing with the site is reasonable, for the fact that it is just showing who ever is responsible is immature, and very unreasonable because they are ex players, just because they want to retaliate their bans or whatever.
Just accept that you are banned, nothing less, nothing more. You are banned for a good reason, you broke the rules of the site. You will have to suffer because you broke them. Deal with it, you read the rules, and the whole thing before you joined, you should expect what is coming.

Thank you, Danilo! You're the best. It really sucks that people who screw up and get themselves banned have to ruin it for the rest of us who abide by the rules. It's not fair to the rest of us who WANT to be on HL to PLAY instead of to start crap and troll. It's nice to know we can count on Staff to fix issues like this.

Quite sad when people resort to such actions just because they're banned, but I'm glad to see everything's up and running again and hopefully any future attacks can be prevented.
